Elizabeth (Baker) was baptised at Bedminster on 30 December 1827. She was the daughter of James Baker and Elizabeth (Gibbs). Her parents, James and Elizabeth, had married at Bedminster on 15 November 1814. Elizabeth (Baker) married Jacob Ashman at Bristol in February 1846. By the time of the 1851 British census they had two small children, infant Lambert James and four-year-old Mary Jane. Jacob worked in a coal mine, while Elizabeth took in ironing. In 1852 they decided to emigrate and after applying for free passages they joined the Sir Edward Parry at Plymouth. After an uneventful voyage they arrived at Geelong in October 1852. The family moved to Ballarat where more children were born: Sarah Ann, no birth date but died aged one year in 1855; Sarah Ann b. 1856; Henry William b. 1859; Alfred Jacob b. 1861 and Arthur John b. Brandy Creek in 1864. Elizabeth Ashman died aged 71 years at Yuonga in 1897.
