Sophia, a widow, emigrated from Germany arriving in Adelaide on 9 December 1849 with six children. She settled in Ballarat where the family lived for over seven generations. They include the Norton, Tankard, and Dunemann families. Sophia died 6 February 1890 aged 88 years and was buried in the Ballaarat Old Cemetery.
